Our website address is: https://understandthejob.com and we provide guidance on job hunting including topics of wages, hidden expectations, red flags, and personal suitability. We have articles, guides and tools which provide tailored help with next-steps advice so you can respond effectively. The site includes a glossary of job advertising terms to help decipher cryptic ad phrases to guide job seekers and applications. In addition the Job Advert Explainer provides a breakdown of what the advert really means (and implies) and delivers tailored guidance and a suitabilty analysis.
What data do we collect?
When visitors paste advert text on the site into the analysis tool we do not store the data in the form, we process the form and return an anonymised advice page. We save only the anonymised analysis “explainer” text as displayed.
We do log the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection and to provide protection against bad actors, but these are not stored alongside the submitted texts. There is no correlation between submitted text and you anonymised IP. The text is discarded immediately, the IP after one month or sooner if required.

How long we retain your data
Other than anonymised IP addresses for security and spam protection your user data is not stored by this site.
IP Addresses are automatically deleted from this site after one month, if you would like your IP address deleted before that time please contact us.
We store an anonymised result of the analysis of the advert which you pasted – these are stored in the form of advice pages, example results, and saveable result pages for sharing.
If you feel that a result contains identifying information please indicate the information by contacting us and we will endeavour to remove that information if we agree.
